“Punch Line Drunk”

In this hilarious and educational comedy show, Patrick Holbert tells stories and jokes about his past addiction and current sobriety. “Punch Line Drunk” outlines his transformative journey from abusing substances to amusing audiences. It’s an informational “TED Talk of Shame” spanning his college years as an overachiever under the influence, his debaucherous career as a TV producer, and how it all came crashing down.

With 10 years clean, Patrick performs standup nightly in New York City’s best comedy clubs and seediest bars. He has proclaimed himself “The Jason Bourne of safely navigating booze-soaked environments.” During this presentation, students will be asked to consider their own relationships with alcohol and other drugs while also learning pragmatic ways to live a fun and productive life without getting wasted.

After joining him on this twisted saga from keg stands to standup, audiences are encouraged to participate in an interactive Q&A.

“Patrick’s talk was captivating and moving. His personal story impacted the students in a positive way. Many students commented on how they related to him and that his speech made them think about their own behaviors while also making them laugh. I liked the personal aspect of the talk because there were so many twists and relatable moments when talking about family issues with alcohol and how it impacts adulthood. I will absolutely recommended this talk to other college counselors! This was excellent!”
— Meredith Beardmore, LMHC, Counselor/Coordinator of Alcohol and Other Drugs, Iona College
“We were very satisfied with Patrick’s talk. He was prepared and comfortable to begin speaking. We liked how he was approachable and willing to tailor his presentation to our needs. He was vulnerable and professional. Although most of the room knew about us, it was nice to see the support and the purpose. I would recommend him to other colleges, both in general and specifically for CRP/C’s.”
