Absolutely Wonderful- What a great title. That’s what Nick Griffin called the special he asked me to direct for him back in October 2022 (Released in August 2023). That’s a little bit of a gap of time, eh? Production moves slow some times. In Nick’s case, he released the album first and then I think 800lb Gorilla released the special on their YouTube channel later. Honestly I forget how it all unfolded. These projects are typically done on such a shoe string budget, by the time my job is done I have to move on to the next gig.
My special was shot on April 27th, 2024 at an addiction recovery conference that took place somewhere on the east coast. I have to keep it vague because it’s pretty atypical to bring cameras to an event that promises its participants privacy and anonymity. The editing is almost done and I cannot wait to share it with you!
But back to the subject of this post: Nick Griffin is one of the funniest comics working. A true “comic’s comic.” He’s been on Letterman like 11 times. He’s wry and dry and a master of observational jokes. If you don’t want to watch the whole thing, check out my favorite bit about the couch at 18:30. Or the male therapist joke at 28:28. It makes me laugh so hard. It’s possibly the best joke about “toxic masculinity” without saying “toxic masculinity.”
